The Church of Ecstasy
The Church of Ecstasy is a faction of Doskvol based in Brightstone, nominally led by Carter Brownsfield. Thanks to the actions of Demon Squad, The Church of Ecstasy is now secretly controlled by The Reconciled. Demon Squad was briefly at war with The Church of Ecstasy, but now, through our alliance with The Reconciled, we have right of first refusal on all Church of Ecstasy contracts, as well as the right to safe passage through Brightstone.
The Church of Ecstasy believes that it is righteous to empty oneself of their natural spirit, to make way for demonic possession, which they regard as holy. Their headquarters is The Sanctorium, a grand cathedral in Brightstone.
Demon Squad made enemies of The Church of Ecstasy after breaking into The Sanctorium in search of a soul gem, which we required to pacify the demon Laba'gurtr'an. While there, we accidentally killed their Praetor by forcing him through a booby trap guarding the Inner Sanctum. While searching the Inner Sanctum, we came across two automata of a lion and a rhinoceros, which we defeated. The Inner Sanctum contained about 30 ancient books spiritually tied to these automata that we could not understand. We took them all and divided them amongst ourselves. After returning to The Boathouse, we learned from our skulks that a wing of The Sanctorium exploded after we left. We took the books to Cornelius Drinkofwater, who told us of his opposition to their demonic efforts.
After some time, The Church of Ecstasy discovered that is was Demon Squad who broke into The Sanctorium several weeks ago. They sent a force of 10 assailants to besiege The Boathouse, setting it on fire. Patch and Lief were able to put out the fire before it caused too much damage, while the rest of us fought off the assault. Psspsspss and The Butler called upon the aid of Jerry McCaskill's ancestors, Jerry McCaskill I and Jerry McCaskill II, while Elmer threw Eyeblind from the roof. The Church of Ecstasy force was quickly dispatched, and their corpses were sunken to the bottom of the ocean. Psspsspss threatened some of their ghosts into giving up the names of the 12 members of the Church of Ecstasy Inner Council, and we learned that their greatest enemy is The Reconciled.
After learning that Cornelius Drinkofwater is a member of The Reconciled, we forged an alliance with them against The Church of Ecstasy. Following Cornelius' direction, we set out to assassinate Cornelius Whitemarsh and get Carter Brownfield possessed by a ghostly member of the reconciled.
